What are Bluehost and Wix ?
When they hear the names Bluehost and Wix, the first thing most people think of is their website building platform. And it’s no wonder — Wix has offered website design services for over a decade, and Bluehost has been building websites for over 20 years. But today, both companies provide so much more than just website design. They each offer a full range of web services, including website hosting, domain registration, and web development.
Bluehost is a hosting provider that deals with running your website full-on when the design is complete. Bluehost can support many design platforms, the help of, especially WordPress, which is the most common design platform while making websites.
Bluehost is the most convenient and most secure place to host your websites. We get many inclusive features discussed in this blog. That helps our website run at its best.
We will discuss the different aspects of choosing Bluehost to host your sites.
Now let’s get to know what Wix is; it is a website builder focused mainly on its design. They have many templates and tools to create the website, and complete hosting won’t be entirely possible by just using Wix. The security is also not that good while hosting through Wix, and we will further discuss both Bluehost and Wix, their pros and cons clearly to make the best choice.
Top criteria to look into while developing a website
Let us list some criteria you will have to understand better while developing a website.
- Where to host your website
- Storage space
- Domain name
- Control panel
- Bandwidth
- SSL certificate
- No of websites
- Content delivery network
- Performance
- Pricing
These are the golden criteria you have to check on different platforms. Compare it with others to get the best option for you. Each web developing platform will have additional features and tools to work with, and the experience in each platform is much different.
Where to host your website
For our website to be published on the internet for others to use, we need a host and a server, which is the backbone of our website.
We have two types of hosting.
Shared hosting is a hostel our website gets stored on a shared server with other websites.
Dedicated hosting: here, we rent out an independent apartment with a dedicated server with fewer websites.
Both Bluehost and Wix, in their initial plans, host the sites in shared hosting. Shared hosting can create many problems like security, traffic, loss of data, etcetera, which will affect our site’s performance. The good part here is that when choosing Bluehost, you can upgrade to dedicated hosting where the servers are always online, and we can access it anytime, anywhere. Since Wix offers only shared hosting, we do not recommend Wix for hosting unless it is a minimal site with small usage and fewer users.
Storage Space
Every digital data requires digital storage space like images and videos need storage space in our phones. Our website also requires storage space to store the contents, designs, data, and other details. When our website has hundreds of pages, it will need ample storage space.
Wix provides only 3GB of shallow storage space. As the number of users increases, the storage space runs out quickly. Storage space will be expensive for higher plans in Wix.
Bluehost provides us with 50 GB of data with their basic plan. That will be more than enough for our website to run for years.
Domain Name
What is a Domain name? It is the identification of any website; your user can find your website quickly and conveniently for us to create an identity.
Wix offers us a personal website address or domain name. We have to upgrade to a higher plan; with this plan, we also get an option to create one more domain name for free.
Bluehost offers us a free domain name even in its basic plan. Bluehost also allows us to use domain names we already purchased elsewhere. They don’t charge us for this.
Web Hosting Control Panel
Control panels are an online interface provided by the host service to change our server settings according to our requirements. The Control panel allows us to manage the server and the hosted services.
Cpanel is the popular control panel used by most users. They provide a graphical interface and automated tools for easy designing and hosting of your website. Cpanel is easy to use and study; you get many free tutorials to use Cpanel, making it popular among the control panels.
Bluehost uses Cpanel, making it easier to use and convenient for the users while using Bluehost.
Wix doesn’t provide a full option control panel, and the control panel is customized by the provider, making it difficult for the users to use it.
Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the capacity of the connection that connects between the user’s website and the server. Bandwidth defines the amount of data to be transferred between the site, its’s users, and the server. If you have more website users, you require higher bandwidth.
Bluehost provides us with unlimited bandwidth capacity for every user. They charge extra only if we have heavy traffic on our site and use a tremendous amount of data, particularly for your site.
Wix provides only 2GB of bandwidth in their basic plan, which is very low. When you have high traffic on your site, this 2GB bandwidth will finish very quickly, which will cause us trouble. The free plan of Wix only provides 500Mb of data bandwidth.
SSL Certificate
Security is the main feature any website must provide for its users. SSL certificate is vital for websites. SSL( Secure Sockets Layer) certificate offers an online security protocol for creating an encrypted link between the web browser and web server.
For security reasons, most users prefer to use the website with the HTTPS protocol rather than the HTTP protocol. SSLS certificate help to host the website with HTTPS protocol.
Both Bluehost and Wix provide the users with SSL certificates from their basic plan. Anybody using any of the two providers gets the SSL certificate.
Number of Websites
Bluehost allows only one website with a free domain name in its basic plan, but by paying a little extra to upgrade your plan, we will get an unlimited number of websites to be created under one account.
On the other hand, Wix provides us with unlimited websites to be created in one account itself.
Content Delivery Network
CDN is a group of servers distributed all over the world in different locations, which helps us deliver our data quickly. When you are hosting your website from a country, and your user uses it from a faraway land, your user will access it from a nearby server, which is among the CDN.
Luckily both the providers Bluehost and Wix get theirs on dedicated CDN.
Performance
The website’s performance is valued by the uptime and downtime of its server network. Uptime is defined as the duration of time your server is active, and the website is available for anybody to use from anywhere.
Downtime is the time the website is stalled or not available for work. Downtime in any server can be due to some human error, a technical issue in hardware or software, a cyber attack, or a natural disaster.
The higher the uptime is for any server higher is the performance of any site.
Bluehost has good uptime of about 1hr and 45 minutes each year ( 99.98%)
Wix has a better uptime of 50 minutes each year(99.99%)
The unavailability of your website will affect the performance, credibility, and quality of your website. So choose a server with maximum uptime.
Pricing
Pricing is a crucial acceptance for beginners starting their website, and not everyone has a full backup for finance. So everyone will opt for a convenient means of pricing options. Most of the providers have complex packages that will be difficult to understand. No problem, we will help to crack it.
The best way to calculate the rate is monthly. Even if you are paying yearly, this will ease the task. Most web hosting providers don’t provide a monthly plan.
The pricing of Bluehost is more convenient for beginners since they provide their basic package for 2 or 3 years according to our requirements. This period term depends on how we sign up for the Bluehost account.
We will have to pay for the regular pricing when the period ends only. This option is perfect for beginners since they can take their own time to decide on how or what to do with the website.
Wix is one of the host providers that give us a monthly paying option. Their basic plan is around 14$ per month. They have a free plan too, but very few options that won’t help us with good website development. This is a continuous pal that doesn’t have any change. This price might not work for us when we have a meager budget to work with.
Bluehost is the one you can choose for working cheap because they only charge 2.95$/ month if we opt for a 3-year term subscription. The money-back policy of Bluehost is extended to 30 days which is better than the 14 days provided by Wix.
Which would I prefer for you to start your website career, Bluehost or Wix?
Being a beginner, you will need a helping hand in all aspects of website development, so our preference is Bluehost, which provides many helpful tips for beginners. Your career will boom in a few years. Bluehost is user-friendly, too, since they make first on the list in the user experience chart. We can quickly sign up on Bluehost and start with a minimum no of tools along with WordPress, which can be upgraded at any point when you have a better budget. Bluehost will do the difficult part of our work, making it simpler to use.
Wix provides hosting and web development, which is convenient for some unfamiliar with WordPress. But as we go on higher web hosting and development options, it will cost a considerable amount, and this is a risk in our work. The performance level and other criteria would affect at some point.
Bluehost offers a wider variety of website design templates and a wider variety of customization options. This gives you a much greater degree of control over the design and layout of your site. On the other hand, Wix gives you very little control over the design and layout of your site. As a result, you end up with a site that looks and feels pretty generic.
One big difference between Bluehost and Wix is the level of customer service you get. With Wix, you’re on your own. You need to know how to use a computer to set up your website, which can be challenging for some people. However, with Bluehost, you get access to a team of customer service representatives who are ready to help you with any questions or issues you may have.
Bluehost is a better solution than Wix for most people. Most people don’t need the bells and whistles of Wix and are perfectly happy with the minimum amount of features that Bluehost provides. With so many affordable website options, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of choices. That’s where we come in.
Let your choice change this world, and you are called for that.
